The JKMRC is part of the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI) which coordinates the majority of the minerals related research activities at The University of Queensland (UQ). SMI’s seven Centres are leaders in mineral processing; mining and geology; environment; water management; social responsibility; as well as risk, safety and health. The JKMRC benefits from the combined resources, knowledge and opportunities that come with being part of the SMI within one of Australian’s premier learning and research institutions, namely UQ.
Effective collaboration is key to achieving successful research outcomes. Collaboration is at the heart of SMI's operations. This means strong internal collaboration between SMI Centres, research associations within The University of Queensland and external groups in Australia and overseas.
With around 350 staff across six inter-related research centres and commercialisation company JKTech, SMI has a global presence and is developing rapidly - integrating research disciplines, generating new ideas, engaging stakeholders and delivering relevant outcomes.
